Yamate-ryū® Aikijutsu

Yamate-ryū is a direct descendant of the Daito-ryū and remains oriented toward its original purpose; close quarters, multi-attacker, armed combat.  Judo, Jujutsu, and Aikdō are the gentler, modern versions of this art.

Yamate-ryū has ~1700 techniques including strikes, throws, and pins.  The style is extremely technical, and requires exceptional balance, sensitivity, and awareness.  The techniques and concepts are wonderful complements to arts that focus on striking such as karate and kickboxing.

Ittō Tenshin-ryū® Kenjutsu

Ittō Tenshin-ryū is a school of swordsmanship founded by Kurosawa Kojiro (circa 1900) and brought to the United States in the 1960s.

Students of Itto Tenshin-ryu practice an extensive curriculum of solo kata with real swords (shinken) and multiple person combat forms with wooden swords (bokken). The curriculum is supplemented by study of the spear (yari), polearm (naginata), and four-foot staff (jo), and Jujutsu techniques to impede or disarm an opponent.

Swordsmanship is an excellent vehicle for the study of strategy, and students develop an intensity and focus that has value in any conflict situation.
